More than half of US men think the gender gap is solved
More than half of US men think the gender gemeinsame agrarpolitik is solvedMore than half of US men think the gender gap is solvedThe gap between the way men and women are treated and paid at work is one that social science researchers, think tanks and advocacy organizations have been talking about for a long time.Yet, despite this data, a startling new poll found that most men dont see this gap. For them, the gender gap is an issue of the past.Majority of men believeall obstacles to gender equality are goneAccording to a new SurveyMonkey poll,58% of U.S. men in the workforce believed that all obstacles to gender equality are gone. SurveyMonkey interviewed over 13,000 workers ages 18 and up, and of those thousands surveyed, only 38% of the men surveyed believed some barriers remained in place. So, mission accomplished? We have fully leaned in?Not so fast, women respondents said. Their answers were reversed. Only 36% of women believed that all obstacles to gender equality had been elim inated while the majority of them- 60%- believed that obstacles still exist. The gap in perception only got wider for workers in the tech industry.61% of male tech workers believed that all obstacles to gender equality were gone while only 30% of female tech workers believed the same. From ansicht results, it appears that these workers are existing in different universes. Female tech workers exist in one where their code will receive more scrutiny than their male peers. If they work at Uber, they exist in a world where sexual harassment by male bosses has a history of being ignored if the employee is a high performer. These women are existing in male-dominated fields where only 6% of venture-capital startups are owned by womenand companies like Google are being investigated by the government for their extreme gender pay gap.Other evidence that suggests the gender gap is mathematically backed On average, women earn 79 cents to every mans dollar. In salary negotiations, women who refused to disclose what they made previously got lower offers than men. After college, multiple studies have found that millennial women will make less money and achieve slower career progress than their male peers despite equal qualifications. Even at the highest levels of power, women get interrupted three times as often as men. Studies have even shown that womens competence at work is judged by men based on the color of their hair.Although these tech workers work in the same industry, the polls findings make it seem as if they work in parallel universes. It remains to be seen whether these two wildly different perceptions will ever converge.

If youve never held a nanny job before, how do you make a nannys resume?Dont panic; everyone has to start somewhere. If you dont have specific experience as a nanny, focus instead on your relevant skills, education, and training. Perhaps you are a talented communicator or know how to stay calm in a crisis. Maybe you have experience working with all kinds of people or always maintain a positive attitude. Even if you have gained these strengths from other roles, they will all serve you well as a nanny. Reference our nannies resume sample to get the ideas going. Remember that you can go into more detail in your cover letter and explain why you are an excellent fit for the job.2. How do you list references on a nannys resume? While references are undoubtedly valuable for anyone who works in childcare, its best to leave them off of your resume unless specifically requested. Save the precious space on your resume for your accomplishments, skills, work experience, certifications, and education, as shown in our nannies resume sample. Have your references ready to present to hiring managers when appropriate. If interested, they will ask for them. As a courtesy, remember to give your contacts advance notice to let them know they may hear from a potential employer.3. What is the best design for a nannys resume?Resist the urge to go all ou t with catchy fonts, colors, and graphics. These designs can set you apart from other jobseekers in a bad way and make it harder to pass an Applicant Tracking System screening. Today, hiring managers continue to prefer resumes that are clean, clear, and easy to read. The emphasis should be on the content, not the aesthetics.4. Whats the best way to list certifications on your nannys resume?Follow the tried-and-true formula by leading with your name and contact information. Then, like in our nannies resume sample, continue with a powerful summary statement and skills section. Finally, go into your work experience and education sections, concluding with a hobbies and interests section if desired.Whether you having training in CPR, child development, or early learning, you will want to add these valuable credentials to your resume. Feel free to show off your most important certification in your summary statement or areas of expertise. You can cover the rest in your education section, s tarting with the most recent certification and working backwards. See our nannies resume sample for inspiration.5. How can you separate your nannys resume from other candidates resumes? There are several methods to make your resume distinct, but the best way is to incorporate a relevant combination of achievements, skills, and experience. Your work history should demonstrate both duties and accomplishments, using metrics and numbers whenever possible.Another strategy is to rely on the specific listing or description for the job to which you are applying. Observe recurring phrases and keywords, and insert these into your resume. Not only does this help your resume align closely with the role, but it also appeases an ATS. 5 Tricky Résumé Questions Answered
5 Tricky Résumé Questions â" Answered 5 Tricky Résumé Questions â" Answered Job seekers can write their résumés in so many different ways that they often land with loads of questions. They may wonder if they should use a résumé template, for example, or if they should list volunteer work. Here are some other commonly asked questions from recent graduates to senior-level professionals. The answers can help guide you as you put your résumé together for the first time, update it or simply work to improve it. 1. As a recent college graduate, Iâm having trouble filling in my résumé with things employers would care about. What should I include? As a new graduate, you should list the standard information: name and contact information, education, work, internship and volunteer experience and any professional associations to which you belong. There are pieces you can add to fill out your résumé. In the education section, you may want to include relevant coursework, awards and extracurricular activities. If youâve attended seminars or conferences, or if you've written a thesis, include those items, too.Think about your school years and how your teachers, professors and peers would describe you. It may help to talk to close friends and family to start this thought process. Translate your key skills in bullets describing your activities and experience or in a separate section named, "core competencies."2. During my college years, I started a student organization, belonged to several clubs and graduated with honors. Should I include that information in my résumé?These are all outstanding accomplishments, and if youâre just starting out after college, include this information. If you graduated several years ago or more, and this extra information is going to push your résumé to more than two pages, delete it. Move those accomplishments to your LinkedIn profile. The only exception to the two-pages-or-less rule is if youâre in the academic, scientific or medical field and have a curriculum vitae that's expected to be longer. Applications for overseas jobs and those in the federal government often call for a CV. 3. I feel like my résumé is just a list of my work experience. How can I make it stand out?Add a tailored career profile at the top, just below your name and contact information. Read the job description closely â" particularly the required qualifications â" and answer how you fit those qualifications in two to three lines. For example, say the po sting asks for five or more years of marketing experience, and youâve got seven years under your belt. Include a statement like, âSeven years of marketing experience [at start-up firms].â 4. My job title does not totally define what I do every day. How can I make it reflect my work so employers wonât gloss over my résumé?Itâs not a good idea to alter your job title on your résumé where you list your work experience. A company that wants to give you an offer will likely check in with your past employers. You donât want to cause confusion or have your potential employer decide not to hire you if they detect misinformation.Showcase that you've done more than what your title suggests in the bullets or career profile that headlines your résumé. Think about using a title ahead of your career profile that encompasses the work youâve performed. For example, say you have the title of office manager, but you also contribute to sales and financial management. You could use a title there like, "business development and operations manager."5. Iâve worked in the telecommunications industry for many years, and now Iâm trying to get into real estate. What do I do?Se arch for real estate jobs and titles that you're either interested in or possibly qualified for on Indeed or another job search engine. Read several of these posts, and then take a look through your résumé. What skills do you have, and what tasks have you performed in your telecommunications jobs that are valuable in the real estate industry? Those are the bullets you want to keep when applying to a job in the industry. You may also want to consider a different résumé style. The most commonly used résumé is a chronological format that lists your jobs and experience in reverse order. A functional résumé can be ideal for a career transition, because it focuses on your skills and accomplishments. Typically, you would list relevant skills and specific examples of how youâve demonstrated them in your jobs, and then you'd provide general information about each job below that (company, title, dates and location). Another option is a combined format in which you use elements of both résumé styles. A relevant résumé that makes you stand out is not easy to write. However, these clues should help you land an entry-level job or transition to a different role. The most important thing is to make it applicable to the job to which youâre applying. As you read a job posting, pay close attention to the required and preferred qualifications. Find the matches between those and your background and skills. If you meet enough of the qualifications, you should apply. But donât leave it to the recruiter or human resources manager to figure out if thereâs a fit. Do the work for them, and make sure you clearly state why youâre a match in the résumé you forward to that organization â" both in your bullets and the career profile.Marcelle Yeager is the president of Career Valet, which delivers personalized career navigation services. How to Successfully Change Careers
How to Successfully Change Careers How to Successfully Change Careers Change is never easy, particularly if you are trying to move into an entirely new field. But change isnât impossible. You can successfully transition into a new career , granted you are committed to it. âIt is possible to transition into a new job but it takes time and work,â says Catherine Palmiere, president of Adam Personnel, Inc . âSometimes people make a jump and they havenât done their due diligence.â Change never happens overnight, and that is especially true of career change . You canât wake up one day and say you want to trade your accounting job for a position as a fitness trainer and think it will happen quickly. Not only do you need to research the profession you are aspiring to but you have to see what type of education or certificates are needed. But even doing that isnât enough. You also have to look inward and make sure you have the skills and personality needed to make the move successfully. âSomeone with great computer skills thatâs in the financial service business that wants to move to the cloud platform will have a much easier transition then a financial services worker that wants to be a social worker,â says Palmiere. According to Mary Foley, Senior Sourcing Specialist for IT Talent at Progressive , people looking to switch careers should consider their passions and interests outside the office and think about ways to apply that to a new career. While you may know exactly what you want to do in your new career, for those that want to switch but arenât sure into what it pays to take one of the many skill assessment tests available over the Web or rely on a self-assessment to figure out where your are strong and what areas you are weak in. After all, if you are not a people person than itâs doubtful that you will succeed in a customer service role. âThe key to remember when it comes to career transitions to make one very small step at a time,â says Alexandra Levit, business and workplace consultant and Career Advisory Board member. âDo a lot of investigation behind the scenes but donât quit your day job.â Levit says a great way to kick the tires and make contacts is to find a mentor or mentors in the field or job you want to work in. Those people are in the trenches day in and day out and will be a plethora of information about what itâs really like. Finding mentors can be easily done thanks to the Internet. Levit says to use online tools like LinkedIn to zero-in on the people you would want to meet in the field you are eyeing. Once you have a list of targets, ask them if they have time for a ten or 15-minute informational interview . If you get the interview, youâll be able to pick their brain and forge a relationship with the person or people. That could translate into a job down the road if you are front and center in their mind when an opening comes up. Canât or wonât find a mentor, then consider volunteering . If you always dreamed of working in a museum but ended up in the back office of a financial firm then volunteer at one. According to Levit not many people think of volunteering not only as a way to learn about a job but to get their feet wet and adds skills to their resume. Once youâve amassed the necessary skills and have the network in place itâs time to start sending out resumes . While a career transition can be handled in different ways via the resume, career experts say you want to focus on your transferable skills and less about the chronological order of your previous positions. One way to do that is to go with a functional resume that lists all your skills at the top and then at the bottom has your past jobs in chronological order. âFunctional resumes are controversial because people will think you are trying to hide something,â says Levit. âAs long as you show your career trajectory at some point the functional resume could cause them to take a second look instead of tossing it in the garbage.â The last thing you want to do is randomly send out resumes and hope you will get a call back. Instead, Palmiere says you have brand yourself by reaching out to the decision makers . That could mean sending a letter or email to the top person in the company you want to work for and bypassing the HR department altogether. If you do decide to send a letter or email make sure to research the company and the person you are reaching out to. You want to show that youâve done your homework and have real reasons to want to work there whether itâs because you believe in the companyâs mission or the CEOâs philanthropic work has had such an impact on you.

The Motivations of Passion and Money
The Motivations of Passion and Money The Motivations of Passion and Money The short answer is no, nothing guarantees financial success. But does that mean you should abandon your dreams of being a pioneer, starting a business, or pursuing unconventional work? Of course not. But that answer comes with conditions. For instance, if your passion wonât allow you to subsist at an acceptable level or would affect your education then you probably shouldnât bet your economic stability on its success. After all, without your basic needs being met you have lack the capacity to pursue your passions in any successful fashion. But even the threat of economic ruin shouldnât keep you from participating in your passions to some extent. In fact, research has shown that people who regularly work towards something for which they are passionate are more satisfied and fulfilled than those who do not. This is just as true for individuals who possess the material means to do what makes them happy. Most of the time, people who have more than enough money to consider pursuing more fulfilling work refuse to do so simply because doing so would shrink their income. To these individuals, the point where they have âenoughâ money to abandon the work that keeps them unhappy is never reached. But the assumption that they donât already have sufficient means to do so is frequently wrong. Another incorrect assumption is that doing what makes you happy can never lead to financial success. The fact of the matter is that you never know where your passions will lead, what you will produce, and the value that others may find in your inventions or insight. The only way to find out what your dreams have to offer is to act towards reaching them. The only way to turn an uncertainty into a certainty is to actively pursue the consequences. The fact is that you can never precisely predict the future. You can never plan for every eventuality. All one can do is move slowly, and smartly, towards making a reality and wait and see what happens. Even small steps can change reality in a big way or reveal perspectives that were previously unseen. And, you never know, you may find that your passion can and does turn a profit. But even if it doesnât, spending part of your day doing something that makes you feel purposeful and content is necessary in being happy and more productive in both your personal and professional lives. Donât let the money factor keep you from pursuing your dream.

Study 60% of people cant finish everything on their to-do list
Study 60% of people can't finish everything on their to-do list Study 60% of people can't finish everything on their to-do list What does your to-do list look like? Does the very idea fill you with terror?To-do lists are touted as a simple, easy method of helping people stay on task. When you take on too much, however, they spiral out of control and become objects of doom. VitalSmarts, a leadership training company released findings from a study of more than 1,300 people showed that 3 in 5, or 60%, of people are overcommitted, with more on their to-do list than they can possibly finish. An additional 1 in 5 say theyâre at the point where they simply cannot take on any more.Just how overcommitted are we? 60% of respondents said they have more than 60 tasks on their weekly to-do list (including both personal and work tasks) 15% said they have more than 100 tasks When people were asked if they had more tasks than they could actually get done, 23% said that was true âabout half the time,â and 37% answered âusually.â A very stressed 32% answered âalways.âHow did we end up here?Taking on all these tasks comes from a good place. 73% of people said their to-do lists were out of control because they wanted to be helpful and generous to others, not to mention polite. 53% were problem-solvers, even if they were solving problems that werenât necessarily theirs. It also comes from being bad with boundaries. 39% cited unclear boundaries and limits over what commitments they should and shouldnât accept, and 32% said they just werenât able to say âNo.âOf course overcommitting yourself for whatever reason comes with side effects, regret, and feelings of overwhelm. 50% of people asked said they were moderately stressed, with 35% highly stressed. Over half of respondents (52%) worried about letting themselves or others down, and 46% felt overwhelmed. How to move forwardâThere are a small number of self-management practices that can literally change a personâs life by dramatically improving performance while also reducing stress,â and Justin Hale, co-creator of Getting Things Done Training, in a release. Hale is one of the studyâs lead researchers. âWhen you learn to manage your workload quickly and efficiently, youâll not only take control of your to-do list but also avoid the weight and anxiety that comes with carrying an impossible workload.âHale suggests keeping your to-dos in an app or on a piece of paper â" not in your head. Then, do a âcommitment audit â" this may mean bowing out of some commitments, or re-negotiating others. Next, break large, vague âprojectsâ into a set of smaller, doable actions â" even the tiniest action is one step further to your goal. Review your progress weekly â" never skip this check-in meeting with yourself.Incrementally, you can create hope out of cha os.

How to Write a CV for a Successful Job Search
How to Write a CV for a Successful Job Search How to Write a CV for a Successful Job Search Your curriculum vitae, or CV, is the first thing potential employers will see when you apply for a job. It is essential to write a strong CV to maximize your chances for success. There is no one-size-fits-all template for a CV; different fields pay more attention to different aspects of the CV. However, there are some basic guidelines for how to a write a CV and which information to include. A CV must be easily readable and highlight your strengths and achievements. Your CV should also contain top keywords that are relevant to the job you want. Tools such as Jobscan help you quickly identify the most important keywords for each job posting. Today, up to 90% of companies use applicant tracking systems (ATS) for resume screening. If your CV or resume doesnt contain the right keywords, you simply fall into the resume black hole. Your CV should include the following: Your name and contact information, including your city and state (your full address is not required), telephone number, and email address. If you have a LinkedIn profile, it is helpful to include that as well. Career history, in reverse chronological order. You can include temporary jobs and volunteer experience if they make you a stronger candidate for the job. A brief description of yourself and the qualities and qualifications which make you the best candidate for the position. Prior awards, achievements, and publications, if these are relevant to the position you are seeking. Education, certifications, and training, in reverse chronological order. We asked career coach Corinne Mills, managing director of Personal Career Management, for advice on how to write your CV. She recommended a simple typeface and emphasized that it is essential to proofread again and again. âPoor spelling is the quickest way of getting a rejection,â she said. In addition, she recommended reading five or more different advertisements for similar jobs and using their requirements as a guide for what to say in your CV. Many people think that one CV will fit all applications, but it needs to be a very targeted document for the role, she said. Do some research so you understand what employers are looking for. Use Jobscans resume analysis tool to identify the top skills and keywords within a job description. Resumes vs. CVs Every CV should highlight your skills, experiences, and qualifications. The rules for how to write a CV vary based on location and industry. Whats known as a CV in Europe is synonymous with whats known as a resume in the US. CVs are also used in the US, but only in certain fields (most commonly academia). Both CVs and resume can be accompanied by cover letters. As with CVs and resumes, you should write a cover letter that is tailored to the specific role and that will help you be ranked highly by an ATS. Learn more about resumes vs. CVs.
